SEXUAL HEALTH
GROUP WINS CONTRACT TO SUPPLY CONDOMANIA CONDOMS
FOR BEDFORDSHIRE TEENAGE PREGNANCY CAMPAIGN
The Board of Sexual Health Group, a national
supplier of sexual health products to customers
including the National Health Service ("NHS"),
is pleased to announce that the Company has
been awarded a contract to supply GP surgeries
and other key locations in Bedfordshire with
its Condomania condoms.
The Company will be working closely with the
Teenage Pregnancy and Health Promotion teams
to instigate programmes to enable GPs and healthcare
professionals, to improve the education of
young people in their choices of contraceptives,
to reduce the incidence of teenage pregnancies,
and to also reduce the level of sexually transmitted
infections (STIs) by ensuring condoms are readily
available and accessible.
Today’s news comes at an opportune time
for the Company, with the Government launching
a new nationwide campaign to target areas with
the highest teenage pregnancies.
According to conception statistics, published
in February 2005 by the Office for National
Statistics, the number of under-18s who became
pregnant in England and Wales had risen, from
41,868 in 2002 to 42,173 in 2003.
Commenting on the new scheme for Bedfordshire,
Neil Timmins, Health Promotion Team Leader,
said: “Whilst Bedfordshire has seen a
drop in teenage pregnancy figures since 1998,
we cannot be complacent. Therefore, the Primary
Care Trust is looking forward to working in
partnership with Condomania, our GPs, and Specialist
Young People projects to continue to reduce
the level of teenage pregnancy and STIs”.
Commenting on the new contract, Sexual Health
Group Chief Executive, George Sutherland, said: “We
are delighted to have been chosen to implement
this distribution scheme, and look forward
to helping Bedfordshire to improve the sexual
health of its teenagers”.
