THE GOVERNMENT WHITE PAPER
ON SEXUAL HEALTH AND SEXUAL HEALTH GROUP PLC – A
NATIONAL SUPPLIER OF SEXUAL HEALTH PRODUCTS
The Board of Sexual Health Group (“SHG” or “the
Company”), a national supplier of sexual
health products to customers including the
National Health Service (“NHS”)
and the British Armed Forces, notes that The
Government has, this week, published its long
awaited White Paper on Health, which addresses
the subject of sexual health.
The key points for SHG are:
- Introduction of a new National Screening
Programme for Chlamydia;
- Targeting 16-30 year olds (the ‘Condomania’ condom
brand target market);
- A new campaign by the Government to promote
the use of condoms to avoid the risk of Sexually
Transmitted Infections (“STIs”)
and unplanned pregnancies;
- Government increasing capital expenditure
on modernising sexual health services and
its provision;
- Increased and more efficient Sexually
Transmitted Infection screening programmes;
and
- Contraceptive review in 2005 with investment
from central funds in addition to local funds
to meet gaps in local services.
All these points impact positively on the
Company’s plans, and further strengthens
its position as a potential key supplier in
this market.
The Company is currently raising funds by
way of an Offer for Subscription and will seek
to have it shares traded on the OFEX Market.
George Sutherland, Chief Executive of Sexual
Health Group, said “We are encouraged
by the proposed strategies to be implemented
by the Government. Educating the public about
the benefits of condom use and how to avoid
the risk of STIs, coupled with PCT’s
working to target 16-30 year olds fits with
our own marketing programme.
“We are very excited about our
forthcoming flotation and welcome the improvements
in provision of services for screening of
STIs. With particular emphasis on Chlamydia,
this confirms our decision to enter this
market”.
